CJA Lifetime Achievement Award
Leroy Logan awarded Lifetime Achievement Award by Criminal Justice Alliance
Congratulations are in order as we celebrate Leroy Logan being awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Criminal Justice Alliance for this contribution to the world of justice and policing over the past 30 years.
At a sparkling ceremony broadcast live from a studio in London last night, Junior Smart announced the winners and runners-up of this year’s awards with an infectious passion and energy, and spoke to the individuals and organisations honoured about the inspiring and impactful work they have done.
When describing Leroy’s achievements, the Chair of the Metropolitan Black Police Association Janet Hills not only spoke of Leroy’s achievements in the police service but who is as a person.
“For many Black and Asian officers within the Met, the details of Leroy’s journey is unknown. However, the depiction of his achievement and impressive career have been captured in a new short film titled ‘Red, White, and Blue’ by the award-winning director Steve McQueen. The British actor John Boyega depicts his on-screen character. Leroy’s autobiography ‘Closing Ranks: My Life as a Cop’ is a testament to his moral fibre and will leave a legacy that will inspire all.”
In response to winning the award, Leroy said, ‘This award is extra special, because its been given by my peers in the Criminal Justice Alliance. I am humbled that my Met career has been recognised in this way.
I don't intend to ease up in my community service of activism and advocacy, especially after receiving this award. There is no time for complacency, particularly during this hard hitting pandemic.
There is still a great deal of work to be done in correcting systemic failures in the justice system and I look forward to collaborating with my CJA peers in this ongoing work.’
